Meet the Southwestern Suburban Symphony
The Peoples' Orchestra in the Southwestern Suburbs!
The Southwestern Suburban Symphony has arrived, prepared to deliver high caliber vocal and instrumental concerts to the people in Hales Corners, Muskego, New Berlin, Franklin, Greendale, Oak Creek, Greenfield and beyond. The fully professional orchestra of the finest instrumentalists in the area, led by Executive Director, Christine Flasch is committed to presenting a broad variety of superb concerts in the area’s leading venues.
The debut of the SWSS at the Saber Center for the Performing Arts in “Glorious Gershwin” in August of 2015 resulted in an enthusiastic full house of local patrons. The Shepherd Express described the concert in glowing terms: “Flasch led a well-rehearsed, crisp-sounding group in a fine primer on George Gershwin. The works selected (were) performed with exuberance and flair…the colors blazed brightly”.
The Symphony’s second offering is the Hallmark Hall of Fame Classic, Amahl and the Night Visitors. The famous children’s musical drama will be presented Friday, January 8, 2016 at Hales Corners Lutheran Church, 12300 Janesville Road. Performances are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The fully staged production with chamber orchestra features a nationally recognized cast, and marks the debut of Waukesha’s Samual Piatt in the lead role of twelve-year-old “Amahl”.
Amahl and the Night Visitors tells the simple story of an impoverished, disabled shepherd boy and his widowed mother who are living on the outskirts of Bethlehem some 2000 years ago. As they are about to go begging in order to provide for themselves, they are visited by the most unlikely of guests who stop by to rest as they follow a star. Children and adults alike will be moved by this touching story of hope and renewal, as found in the heart of a young shepherd boy.
That’s Amore, the Southwestern suburbs’ premiere restaurant has agreed to donate 25% of the cost of every meal on January 8, 9, and 10 to encourage and help support the efforts of the Symphony. Thank you for helping us bring great music to the people…right where they live and work by dining at That’s Amore.
